Happy New Year! 2010 has got to better than 2009 - so here we go and before we know it the year will be over so make it the best one you can. Here's a great article, 15 Things You Can Do Every Day to Disrupt the System by Tara(MissRouge)Hunt. And I for one will be putting some of them into action this year - seems like fun. :)

100 Educators to Follow on Twitter!

Filed under: Articles | Education | Social Networking

This list is compiled as a reference for others interested in networking with education related Tweeps on Twitter. This was taken from people I've followed and found interesting. Think of it as a large #FollowFriday list! Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to comment and add to the list.

As most people know Twitter is a micro-blogging tool where you can share information with like minded people but often it is difficult to find them. So I've compiled a list of 100 educational related people you should consider following. In addition to several educational related companies/resources you might find useful too. And if you know of anyone else that should be added to the list please let me know in the comment section.

Twitter is unique because it is 140 characters or less when posting. Some think this is a limiting feature, but it forces people to be direct, leave out the fluff, and frees people up to communicate directly with their 'followers'. The other advantage of Twitter is mobility, cutting the tether most of us have to our desktop computers.

Economic Insight Available in Plain English From Economics Professor!

Filed under: Articles | Education | Information Age
When the AIG and Lehman Brothers bailouts were announced late last September executives at a private university decided to make economics courses available FREE of charge to members of Congress. It is no surprise there were no takers and was most likely a sign those in the Senate and House considered it too difficult to learn economic principles. And with the media giving us the doom and gloom everyday the lack of information is what makes people panic. Information is power and brushing up on Economics 101 will give us at least an idea of what the markets are doing and why things are happening. So take the opportunity to watch the videos embedded in this post. You may not be able to watch them all in one sitting but come back and view the one or two a day!

New Orleans Accents in Honour of Mardi Gras

Tonight I had a conversation with a friend who brought up the southern accent. I have dealt with this issue all my life. I was raised in Louisiana and for years I was teased about my accent when I traveled around the country. And when I entered college I made a conscious effort to loose my accent because everyone formed a opinion of me based on the way I spoke.

So of course I turned to YouTube to see if I could find some information about accents, specifically southern Louisiana or Cajun accents. I was happy to find there were several videos that give a good overview of different accents in the area and I've included them in the post.

I hope you enjoy them - I especially love Justin Wilson who teaches you how to make chicken/sausage gumbo!
